Mr. S. S. Mallikarjuna Rao is a banker with over 35 years of rich experience and was the MD & CEO of Punjab National Bank.He holds degree in B. Sc, LLB and is a Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB). He started his banking career as a Probationary Officer in Bank of Maharashtra in 1985. Prior to assuming the position of MD & CEO, Punjab National bank, he was MD & CEO of Allahabad Bank.
Before this he served as Executive Director of Syndicate Bank since 2016. Mr. Rao has held various positions in Oriental Bank of Commerce including as General Manager & Chief Financial Officer. He had also worked as Assistant Vice President in erstwhile Global Trust Bank before joining OBC. He has served as the Non-Executive Chairman of PNB International Limited, London, PNB Housing Finance Limited and PNB Investor Services Limited. Mr. Rao has additionally held the position of a Nominee Director on the Board of PNB MetLife India Insurance Company Limited and Universal SOMPO General Insurance Company Limited.
During the period at Punjab National Bank (PNB), he successfully completed the amalgamation of Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India into PNB, in terms of the notification issued by the Govt. of India. After amalgamation, PNB emerged as the second largest Public Sector bank with more than 10,000 branches and more than 1 lac workforce. During the period at Allahabad bank, the organizational restructuring was implemented for efficient functioning of the bank. Resultantly, the bank came out PCA (Prompt Corrective Action) imposed by RBI. During the course of his career, he has gained vast exposure in Credit, Information, Technology, Recovery, Treasury, Risk Management, Digital Banking, Retail Banking and Marketing & Publicity.
Mr. Rao was also the Deputy Chairman at the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and was a member of the Insolvency Law Committee (ILC) as well, a standing committees constituted under the aegis of Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
